Paper 1
Revise: The Succession Crisis: Maeandrius, Syloson, and PersiaAlthough Polycrates’ power had fallen to him, Maeandrius declared that he disliked one man ruling over others who were his equals. He offered the citizens equality and a share in that power. This was an offer of isonomia, meaning equality before the law among citizens, and a move towards democratic government rather than continued personal rule.
- Revise: Comparing Samian and Athenian Tyranny
Equality before the law for citizens. Maeandrius offered this at Samos but withdrew his offer rather than establishing a lasting alternative to tyranny.
