Feudal overlord

John’s disputes with Philip included his refusal to acknowledge Philip properly as his feudal overlord. John also married Isabella of Angoulême, who had been promised to a powerful French nobleman. The offended nobleman appealed to Philip, giving the French king another reason to intervene against John.
