Exiles

An anti-communist, he approved a CIA-backed plan to overthrow Castro using Cuban exiles. These were Cubans living outside Cuba who opposed Castro. Using them rather than openly sending US troops was intended to make the attack appear to be a Cuban counter-revolution.

The CIA trained and funded anti-Castro Cuban exiles, organised as Brigade 2506. These were Cubans living outside Cuba who opposed the revolutionary government, not a regular American invasion army.
