Paper 2
Revise: Historical Evidence for the Regal PeriodThe earliest epigraphical evidence relevant to the question of monarchy comes from the sixth century BC, later than the legendary kings studied here. This leaves room for debate about whether earlier Rome was always governed by one king or whether leading clan heads sometimes shared power. Livy’s description of government between kings is relevant to that question, but does not settle it.
