Revise: European migrantsMost Italian migrants arriving in the second half of the nineteenth century were poor economic migrants, although some Italians were wealthy or highly skilled. Italy was not united as a single country until 1861. Limited industrial development and opportunities for advancement encouraged people to look for livelihoods elsewhere.
