Counterinsurgency

Kennedy increased the number of American military advisers, who trained Diem’s army in counterinsurgency: methods for fighting an armed rebellion. He also increased military funding and supplied helicopter pilots. Helicopters helped South Vietnamese forces move troops in their fight against the Vietcong.
