Revise: Culture and FashionA corset, a close-fitting undergarment that supported and shaped the body, helped create a narrow waist. The fashionable ‘S-bend’ corset pushed the chest forwards and hips backwards. Such styles show that the movement towards practical clothing was neither immediate nor complete.
