Revise: Relations with ConstantinopleConstantinople was the capital of the Byzantine Empire, the eastern continuation of the Roman Empire. Its position on the Bosphorus connected the Black Sea with the Mediterranean world. For Vikings travelling through eastern Europe, it offered access to valuable goods, especially silk and Byzantine coins.
