Revise: Revolution in SurgeryIn November 1847, he discovered the anaesthetic effects of chloroform by testing it with colleagues. He had not invented the chemical; his contribution was recognising and promoting its medical use.
Support comparisons with evidence about both individuals: Simpson tested chloroform in 1847; Lister tested carbolic acid on a compound fracture in 1865.
Do not claim that Queen Victoria’s use made chloroform completely safe or that aseptic methods eliminated every surgical risk.
