Revise: Ranching and Cattle IndustryDuring the development of the Plains, c1862–c1876, the cattle industry grew by connecting plentiful cattle with people who wanted to buy beef. After the American Civil War of 1861–1865, cattle worth about $5 a head in Texas could sell for about $40 a head in northern cities.
