Revise: Xerxes' Accession and the Suppression of RevoltsAfter Darius died in 486 BC, Xerxes took royal power. His own inscriptions presented his accession as the will of Auramazda. This gave his rule divine authority rather than presenting it merely as the outcome of a family dispute.
