Paper 1
Revise: HerodotusAfter Marathon, Herodotus discusses an allegation that someone raised a shield as a signal to the Persians. At 6.121–6.124 he rejects the accusation against the Alcmaeonids, arguing that their record of hostility to the tyrants makes betrayal implausible. His position is precise: he accepts that a shield was raised, but says he does not know who raised it.
