Suburb

A simple model places a CBD in the centre, surrounded by the inner city, suburbs and an urban–rural fringe. This is useful for organising observations, but London does not form four perfectly uniform rings.

Suburbs developed along railway lines because residents could travel into the city for work. Industries also developed along these transport corridors.
