Revise: Controversies in Coastal ManagementA sediment cell is a stretch of coastline within which sediment is supplied, transported and deposited. Waves and longshore drift move beach material along the coast, so trapping sediment in one place can reduce the supply reaching another. A successful defence for one village may therefore cause difficulties for its neighbours.
