Revise: Qualitative SurveysAn emotional map can show where respondents feel calm, uncomfortable or unsafe. Mark the locations they identify on a base map and use a clear key for the feelings recorded. Their explanations help you interpret the pattern: a negative rating near a road might concern noise, difficulty crossing or fear of traffic, rather than the same problem for everyone.

An emotional map connects perceptions to places. Give participants a base map with identifiable locations, ask them to mark where they feel comfortable, worried or otherwise affected, and record a short explanation. Use a clear key so that colours and symbols have consistent meanings.
