Revise: Sustainable Approaches and Policy DecisionsUnder a ‘do nothing’ approach, natural erosion and flooding are allowed to continue without intervention to prevent them. Money is not spent on building coastal defences, and natural coastal processes are not interrupted by new structures.
‘Do nothing’ avoids spending on coastal defences, but it does not mean there are no costs: people may lose property, land or livelihoods.
