Split screen

During the telephone calls, split screen places Jan between Brad and his female callers, Eileen and Yvette. Her insertion makes her interruption visible: she intrudes into the romantic exchanges through which Brad monopolises the line. Her prominent position gives her authority rather than presenting her simply as another woman waiting for Brad’s attention.
