In the musical, audiences expect song, dance, skilled performers and visually engaging spectacle. Singin’ in the Rain also uses romance, comedy and the theme of love overcoming obstacles.
Use precise examples of musical conventions rather than simply stating that the film contains singing and dancing.
Explain a convention’s function rather than just naming it: Jess and Marie’s romance provides a parallel to the central relationship.
