Chiaroscuro

Chiaroscuro, strong contrasts between light and shadow, turns the castle into a place where danger may remain concealed. A particularly disturbing detail is that Dracula passes through a web without disturbing it, whereas Renfield has to break through. An ordinary obstacle becomes evidence that the Count does not obey ordinary physical rules.
