Tissue

Imtiaz Dharker’s “Tissue” explores the things people use to preserve identity and organise their lives: religious books, maps, receipts and buildings. These can hold memories, but they can also represent systems of control. The poem asks whether a more open, adaptable world would be better than one built around rigid divisions and displays of power.
