Paper 1
A moral belief used to guide behaviour, including when following it is difficult.
Revise: Passion and reasonJane's decisive inward reply includes 'I will keep the law given by God; sanctioned by man' and 'Laws and principles are not for the times when there is no temptation'. Her repeated 'I will' asserts agency. She reasons that principles would have little value if she abandoned them whenever obedience became painful.
Component 2
Revise: Passion and reasonJane needs emotion to recognise what matters to her, and principle to prevent her desires—or other people’s demands—from taking control of her life.
