Indifference

“Common” helps explain their indifference: repeated exposure to poverty has made it seem ordinary. Yet familiarity does not excuse their lack of concern. Ghose juxtaposes their interest in the performer with their neglect of the sleeping man, revealing how someone can be physically visible but socially ignored.
