Revise: Paragraphs and cohesionCoherence means that the whole piece makes sense; cohesion means that its sentences and paragraphs are linked. Paragraphs help readers recognise how the writing is developing rather than having to work out the organisation for themselves.

Choose a discourse marker for its meaning, not simply to make a paragraph sound formal.

A neatly separated response is not necessarily well organised: the paragraphs must develop ideas and work together for the audience and purpose.
