Laser cutting introduces risks from the beam, fire and potentially harmful fumes. School laser cutters should be Class 1 machines: the working laser is enclosed, with an interlock that prevents accidental exposure to the beam. An interlock is a safety device linked to the enclosure, not an obstacle to bypass.
