Quantum Tunnelling Composite: a material whose electrical resistance decreases when it is compressed.

Quantum Tunnelling Composite, or QTC, responds to compression. Electrical resistance describes how strongly a material opposes the flow of current. QTC has a high resistance when it is not pressed; compression lowers its resistance, allowing current to flow more easily.

For a smart material, identify both the stimulus and the response. For QTC, compression reduces electrical resistance; it does not simply ‘produce electricity’.
