Hand embroidery

In hand embroidery, the maker uses a needle and thread to form each stitch. Running stitch produces a line of spaced stitches; satin stitch places stitches closely side by side to fill an area. Hand stitching gives the maker direct control over individual details, but a large or complex design takes time because each stitch is formed manually.
