A signed binary representation in which the most significant bit has a negative place value. In 8-bit two’s complement, this value is −128 and the range is −128 to +127.

A binary representation of signed integers in which the leftmost bit has a negative place value. In eight bits, the column values are −128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2 and 1.
Check whether a binary pattern is unsigned or two’s complement before interpreting its leftmost bit.
In 8-bit two’s complement, the MSB has a value of −128, not +128. It contributes to the total rather than simply placing a minus sign in front of the other bits.
Check whether the question asks for unsigned binary or signed two's complement before choosing the leftmost column value.
