Definition

An 8-bit extension of ASCII with 256 possible codes, allowing additional characters and symbols.

Paper 1

Extended ASCII uses 8-bit codes, giving 256 possible codes. The additional codes allow more symbols and characters, such as some accented letters. However, this is still too limited to cover all the world's major writing systems.
