The potential difference between two points, measured in volts (V). It describes the energy transferred per unit charge passing between those points.

Revise: Direct vs Alternating VoltageVoltage, also called potential difference, describes how much energy is transferred per unit charge between two points. It is measured in volts (V). A voltage across a component can drive a current through it when there is a complete circuit.
When comparing voltages, state that direct voltage keeps the same polarity, whereas alternating voltage repeatedly reverses polarity.
Voltage does not flow: current is the flow of charge, driven by a potential difference.
On a voltage–time graph, changing height alone does not show a.c.; the voltage must alternate between positive and negative values.
