Tissue culture

In tissue culture, a small group of cells is taken from a parent plant, such as from its meristem tissue, and grown on a nutrient medium. Nutrients support growth, and added plant hormones encourage growth and cell division. Sterile conditions prevent bacteria and fungi from growing and competing with the plant cells.
