Revise: Internal EnergyHeating transfers energy into a system, increasing the energy of its particles and therefore its internal energy. This can have two different effects: the system’s temperature can rise, or it can change state.
Heating does not always raise temperature: energy can increase the particles’ potential energy during a change of state.
Temperature is related to average particle kinetic energy; internal energy is the total kinetic and potential energy of all the particles.
