A rotating connector made from two separated metal segments that reverses the current through a motor’s coil every half-turn.

Revise: Electric Motors (HT Only)The coil’s two ends connect to the two metal halves of a split-ring commutator, which rotates with the coil. Two stationary carbon brushes touch the commutator and connect it to the d.c. supply. The brushes allow electrical contact while the coil rotates.
State that the split-ring commutator reverses the current through the coil every half-turn, not the direction of the power supply.
