Definition

The supporting contact force exerted by a surface on an object, acting perpendicular to that surface.

The ground exerts a normal reaction, perpendicular to the slope. Tension pulls the sledge along the rope, while friction between the sledge and ground opposes its sliding motion. Air resistance also opposes its movement through the air.
