Revise: Mechanisms of Energy TransferMechanical work is energy transferred when a force moves an object through a distance in the direction of that force. The work done equals the energy transferred, and both are measured in joules (J).
A force must move an object through a distance to do mechanical work on it. Pushing a stationary wall does no mechanical work on the wall.
