Revise: The Menstrual Cycle and Hormonal RegulationAfter ovulation, the follicle left behind becomes the corpus luteum. This structure produces progesterone, which maintains the uterus lining. Progesterone also inhibits the release of FSH and LH from the pituitary gland, reducing stimulation of further egg maturation and ovulation during this part of the cycle.
