A loop, or several turns, of conducting wire through which current can flow.

Revise: Electric MotorsAn electric motor uses this force to produce rotation rather than simply pushing a wire along. Its essential working idea is a coil of wire that can turn in an external magnetic field. A direct current (d.c.) supply drives current through the coil.
Explain the full chain: current produces a magnetic field; this interacts with the external field; opposite forces on opposite sides of the coil produce rotation.
Opposite forces do not simply cancel their turning effect: they act on different sides of the coil.
When describing clockwise or anticlockwise rotation, make clear which direction you are viewing the coil from.
