Revise: The battle of ThermopylaeThe allies chose to defend Thermopylae, a narrow passage between mountains and the sea on the route into central Greece. Here, the Persians could not bring their whole army into battle at once. A smaller force could block the road and make superior numbers much less useful.
Distinguish the Persian military victory from the later celebration of Spartan courage: Thermopylae did not end the invasion.
