Satura

The Latin word satura was associated with a mixture or medley. One explanation connects it with a lanx satura, a platter filled with assorted produce. The idea of mixture helps explain the genre’s wide range: satire could bring together everyday incidents, moral arguments, conversations and literary criticism rather than follow one heroic story.
