Revise: Methodological Issues in Classical Source AnalysisA primary source originates in the period being studied: an ancient pot, temple, inscription or literary work can all be primary sources. A modern historian’s interpretation is a secondary source. Primary does not mean accurate, and secondary does not mean useless.
