Paper 5
Revise: Authors, Genres and Composition of Classical War TextsHorace’s Odes belong to lyric poetry, rather than epic. An ode is a shaped lyric poem, and Horace adapts Greek poetic forms into Latin. Unlike the extended narratives of Homer and Virgil, Odes 3.2 presents a concentrated sequence of ideas about military training, death, virtue and religious responsibility.
