Paper 1
Revise: The Genesia: Greek Festivals for the DeadThe Genesia was an annual Athenian festival honouring dead ancestors. It lasted one day in autumn, around late September. Its name is associated with genos, meaning family or lineage.
Distinguish the Genesia from an individual funeral: it honoured the whole ancestral family line, not only someone who had recently died.
