Paper 1
Revise: Preparation of the Body and Roman Funeral ClubsA funeral club offered members a way to prepare for those costs collectively. Members paid a monthly contribution into a shared fund. When one of them died, the club helped pay for the funeral and provided mourners.
Explain the significance of funeral clubs by linking a feature to its effect: monthly contributions helped fund funerals, while providing mourners helped ensure members were remembered.
Do not claim that funeral clubs gave everyone a free funeral. They supported members through contributions, and arrangements varied between clubs.
