Used by OCR
Paper 2
Revise: GreeceIn Greek mythology, the Amazons were a people of warrior women famous for courage, horse-riding and military skill. They were associated with the edges of the Greek world, particularly Themiskyra near the Black Sea. Their connection with Ares, the god of war, gave their fighting abilities a divine background.
Explain why Amazon independence threatened male authority. Simply saying that they were foreign or different from Greek women is not enough.
