Revise: Devolved GovernmentsDevolution transfers some decision-making powers from central institutions to bodies governing particular nations or regions. It allows decisions to reflect local needs while those places remain part of the UK. It is therefore different from independence, which would mean becoming a separate sovereign state.
Distinguish devolution from independence: devolved nations remain within the UK.
Support for further devolution does not necessarily mean support for independence: Welsh Labour, for example, supports more devolved powers while opposing independence.
