When asked for significant figures, count from the first non-zero digit. Include trailing zeros after a decimal point when they are needed to show the requested precision.
Keep unrounded calculator values during intermediate steps and round only the final answer to an appropriate number of significant figures.
If a question specifies a number of significant figures, round the final answer to that number.
