Revise: Dot and Cross DiagramsEach covalent bond contains a shared pair of electrons, normally one supplied by each bonded atom. The shared pair is drawn between the atoms, or in the region where their outer shells overlap.
For a covalent substance, place each shared pair between the bonded atoms. One shared pair represents one covalent bond.
For an ionic substance, show separate bracketed ions with charges outside the brackets; do not draw overlapping shells or shared pairs.
