Revise: Hypotheses and predictionsA scientific theory is different: it is a broad explanation supported by scientific evidence and capable of explaining or predicting outcomes in different situations. Existing theories therefore provide a reasoned starting point when scientists meet a new phenomenon.
A general explanation that applies to many situations, has been tested and used successfully, and is widely accepted by scientists.
When asked to justify a hypothesis, link it to a relevant scientific theory or tentative explanation rather than simply restating the expected result.
