Revise: Reversible ReactionsReading from right to left, C and D reform A and B: this is the reverse reaction. The words forward and reverse describe how the equation has been written; they do not mean that one direction is inherently more important.

Revise: Reversible ReactionsWe call the first direction the forward reaction and the returning direction the reverse reaction.
Read the equation from left to right for the forward reaction and from right to left for the reverse reaction.
For a definition of dynamic equilibrium, include both essential conditions: the system is closed and the forward and reverse reactions occur at the same rate.
If asked why a closed system is needed, explain that preventing substances from escaping allows products to remain available for the reverse reaction.
