The removal of other substances from a sample to increase its chemical purity.
Revise: Defining PurityBecause an impure sample is a mixture, purification involves removing the other substances. Mixture components are not chemically bonded together, so they can often be separated by physical processes chosen according to differences in their physical properties. The result becomes purer as unwanted substances are removed, but it is chemically pure only when one substance remains.
