A positively charged particle formed when a metal atom loses one or more electrons.

Revise: Metallic Bonding and StructuresAfter losing these outer electrons, the remaining particles are positive metal ions. The nuclei have not changed; only the arrangement of the outer electrons has changed.
When describing metallic structure, state both parts: a giant, regular lattice of positive metal ions and delocalised electrons that move throughout it.
